Sport Makers

County Sports Parternships are preparing to play a pivotal role in delivering more 'People' for sport, as part of the the official 2012 legacy programme PLACES PEOPLE PLAY.

The 'Sport Makers' programme will recruit, train and deploy 40,000 new sports volunteers aged 16 years and over to organise and lead community sporting activities across the country.

Volunteers will have a positive and inspiring introduction to the world of sport volunteering via a series of workshops organised locally by the County Sport Parnerships and delivered through a training provider. I t is anticipate that many volunteers will continue to give of their time, further increasing sport participation long after the 2012 Games are held in the UK.

These Sport Makers will organise and support hundreds of thousands of new hours of grassroots sport, creating new opportunities across the country. While doing so, they will bring the Olympic and Paralympic values to life in every community.

Sport Makers will be fully inclusive and target participants including people who have a disability, both males and females and participants from BME groups.

Outcomes
Sport Makers Sport Makers will run from April 2011 until September 2013 and will ensure that:

  • 50,000 new Sport Makers are recruited and invited to an orientation workshop delivered locally through a CSP and by an inspirational trainer
  • 40,000 Sport Makers are provided with deployment opportunities to increase participation for a minimum of 10 hours each by their CSP. Of those deployed, we anticipate -20,000 will continue to volunteer in sport beyond these 10 hours
  • Olympic and Paralympic values are brought to life for the Sport Makers through their orientation workshop so that they feel part of the Olympic movement and role model these values in raising participation

As a result of their deployment, thousands of new opportunities for people aged sixteen and over to participate will be created.
Key partners include:

  • British Olympic Association
  • London Organisating Committee of the Olympic Games
  • National Governing Bodies
  • County Sports Partnerships
  • Local authority sports development teams
  • Other local government partners
  • Other national and county/sub-regional voluntary partners.
