Wider physical activity and links with Health

Having been contracted by the Department of Health to coordinate wider physical activity alongside sport during 2009-10, County Sports Partnerships have built up a wealth of expertise and experience in developing and delivering targeted sport and physical activity interventions to increase health and well-being. They provide a unique bridge between the health and sport and physical activity sectors, helping health commissioners use sport and physical activity to address their local health needs, and helping the sport sector to adapt and present its offer to contribute to health related outcomes and target groups - a real win-win!

The national funding from the Department of Health to CSPs was not continued into 2010-11 due to the current cuts and the policy to fund fewer programmes centrally.  However, Anne Milton MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health, recognises the valuable contribution that County Sports partnerships have made in this area and encourages CSPs to continue in this this area working closely with the Department of Health and with Health Commissioners locally.

To support this, and recognising the significant changes currently taking place in the health sector, the  CSP Network have developed a new offer for public health which CSPs will be able to adapt and deliver to meet local health needs.
